Call for Entries! Help Support the Brattle Theatre!

Info on the Brattle Film Foundation’s Call for entries:

We invite your submissions to the 7th annual ART HOUSE, a silent art auction to benefit the non-profit Brattle Film Foundation! The event will be held Sunday, October 3, 2010 at Oberon, Two Arrow Street, Cambridge.

Participating artists have helped make ART HOUSE one of the Brattle’s biggest annual fundraisers. Last year, we sold a record number of pieces of art, with contributions from 65 artists, both new and established. A range of opening bids gives novice as well as seasoned collectors the chance to buy quality, local, original art while supporting the Brattle Theatre. The auction includes complimentary refreshments and a cash bar.

Cinema theme - optional! This year is the 10th anniversary of the Brattle’s transformation into a member-supported non-profit, and we’d like to celebrate by highlighting cinema-themed art at ART HOUSE. Please consider contributing art that is in any way inspired by, or evocative of, film or video. But this theme is not mandatory -all artwork is welcome!

The Brattle Theatre is the last independent, non-profit movie theatre in Cambridge, celebrating film as both high art and popular culture since 1953. Proceeds from ART HOUSE support the non-profit Brattle Film Foundation, which now programs and operates the theatre. Public support keeps our doors open and the movies projecting, as ticket sales alone cannot cover expenses. If you treasure the Brattle’s unique film programming, this is your chance to help secure its future!

Participating artists:

  • Donate works of art with a market value up to $1,000
  • May receive 25% of the sale price of their donated work, OR may donate 100% of proceeds to the Brattle Film Foundation (Your 100% donation helps us maximize funds raised!)
  • Receive 6 free movie passes to the Brattle Theatre (a $58.50 value)
  • Receive free admission to the auction (a $15 value)
  • Receive recognition in our promotions for helping sustain the historic Brattle Theatre (priceless!)

CLICK HERE to go to the online submission form.

We look forward to hearing from you, and celebrating your art at ART HOUSE 2010!

Summer Demonstrations

Here are the demonstrations we’ve scheduled for this summer.  If you’re also on Facebook, you can RSVP for the events on our Facebook Page.

Printmaking with a small press – Sarah Morrison

1pm-3pm Saturday June 26

Learn about various printmaking techniques that can be done at home with the Utrecht Baby Press (item # 69000).  We will be showing relief, drypoint (on both metal and plastic), monoprint, and etching.  This affordable press makes it easy to produce small art prints and cards.

Bookbinding – Douglas Cushing

1pm-3pm Saturday July 10

See the steps involved in making your own sketchbook with the paper you like, or making books as personalized gifts. We will cover binding from scratch with both Japanese binding and saddle sewn books with full covers.

Image Transfer – Edward Dormody

1pm-3pm Saturday August 7

We will be demonstrating several techniques for transferring images including xylene and acrylic polymer transfers- useful for transferring drawings to printmaking blocks, paper and canvas, and for creating objects for inclusion in collage.

Mat Cutting

1pm-3pm Saturday August 28

Discover how easy to is to cut your own custom mats for framing! This is a great time and money saver for artists who need to frame their own work for presentation and sale, or for any collector who wants to be able to conveniently hang art prints of non-standard sizes.

We just wanted to note for all of our customers (especially you busy students entering final review mode next week) that we will be closing early for our inventory next Tuesday (April 27th)  at 2pm, and reopening at the normal hour on Wednesday April 28th.

Our sister store in Boston will be open normal hours on the day of our inventory. We apologize for any inconvenience, and thank you for your business!
