Call for entries! Brattle Theatre Art House Auction- Check it out!

Art House post card

CALL FOR ENTRIES!

Dear Brattle friends and artists,

We invite you to submit your entries to the sixth annual ART HOUSE silent art auction to benefit the Brattle Film Foundation, to be held Sunday, September 27, 2009!

Thank you to those of you who helped make last year’s ART HOUSE one of our most successful yet, in terms of income and also by drawing our best attendance ever. The auction is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year, and your participation makes a difference to the Brattle!

Since 1953, the Brattle Theatre in Harvard Square has been a cultural landmark, both locally and nationally, as one of the first and best-known art house repertory cinemas in this country, presenting classic and current film from around the world. Operated by the Brattle Film Foundation as a non-profit since 2000, the theatre is dependent on public support, since ticket sales do not cover expenses. Funds raised by our silent art auction help us maintain the Brattle’s acclaimed film programming, while expanding educational and community events, at the only remaining independent and nonprofit movie theatre in Cambridge.

Last year, 67 artists contributed pieces to ART HOUSE. The auction aims to introduce the community to the rich array of work created by local artists, with beginning bids for many pieces set low enough to give novice collectors the opportunity to purchase quality original art. The event includes complimentary refreshments donated by local restaurants and a cash bar.

Participating artists:

. Donate works of art with a market value of no more than $750, offering beginning collectors the opportunity to purchase great art
. May receive 25% of the final sale price of their donated work, OR may opt to donate 100% of the proceeds to the Brattle Film Foundation. (Your 100% donation helps the Brattle maximize funds raised!)
. Receive 6 free movie passes to the Brattle Theatre (a $57 value)
. Receive free admission to the event (a $15 value)
. Receive recognition in our promotions for helping sustain the historic Brattle Theatre (priceless!)

For more information, please see guidelines and form for submission (below and attached.) View the website for last year’s ART HOUSE at:

http://www.brattlefilm.org/brattlefilm/events/2008/art_house/index.html

We look forward to hearing from you, and celebrating your art at ART HOUSE 2009! Please help us secure the future of art house programming at the Brattle!
