Learn how to stretch and prime your own painting surface. Preparation will include affixing the linen to the stretchers, sizing and priming with and oil ground, and the application of an imprimatura to provide a medium value/ neutral toned working surface (which will also reproduce the sought after color of the raw linen- while providing a proper surface for the adhesion of the paint itself, and the isolation of the fibers from the oil)

Learn basic color theory and mixing practices for painting. We will explore hue, value, chroma, saturation, as well as paint qualities such as transparency/opacity,tintorial strength, and mass tone/transparency tone and hue.

Explore aspects of the human portrait as Jeffrey guides you through establishing the basic forms in paint- understand mass and linear description, figure-ground relationship, and mixing of color for the description of skin tones in and out of shadow.
