just saw a great show in NYC

its not up for long- but a very interesting show
Hilary Harkness at Mary Boone- a bit of Brueghel and Bosch, A bit of Russ Meyer if mind controlled by Cindy Sherman- interesting, intricate, and funny narrative painting on panel.

with Sarah Morrison

Sarah will demonstrate block relief printmaking- including transfering the drawing, cutting the block, and printing single and multiple registrations

Mat Cutting
with Edward Dormody
Thursday July 10th 6:00-8:00

Ed will show you how to cut your own mats and assemble framed work for presentation. This is a great money saver for artists who need to frame their own work for presentation.

The Utrecht Cambridge Plein Air Excursion: Part 1
with Douglas Cushing
Saturday July 12th 11:00am-5:00pm

This is an open invitation to meet and paint with other artists out in the open air. We will be meeting at the store and leaving at 11:00 am- walking down to the river and setting up to paint for the day. We will bring a cooler of water- you bring your paints, yourself, and your friends. (any media you want) (no rain day in case of inclement weather)

Ed will be demonstrating several techniques for transfering images including xylene and acrylic polymer transfers- useful for transfering drawings to printmaking blocks, paper and canvas, and for creating objects for inclusion in collage.

wonderful example of alternative media construction

It has long been a standard practice in archeological reconstruction to use a differentiated material in replacing lost portions of the original construction/artwork. This artist in italy takes that a little further in a wonderfully playful manner- which a suprisingly enjoyable aesthetic outcome:
